Day 9 Ebisu and a dash of Shibuya

The group should be heading to Tokyo today. I didn’t receive a phone call from Sensei so I don’t know what time to expect them. I decided to head out and do something. I didn’t feel like spending the day shopping again so I wanted to head somewhere I haven’t been yet but wouldn’t be an all day ordeal.

I took a quick look at a site I have been using to find shops in all the new areas I have visited this trip. Ebisu seemed like a good choice. There wasn’t too much information about what was here so I did some exploring.

This is right outside the sky walk connected to the station.

You can purchase some tickets to do some beer sampling. I don’t really care for Japanese beer so I didn’t bother.

Mmm… Japanese KFC. This is the red hot chicken stuff I’ve seen advertised here. This was not hot at all :(

P6230034

After eating, I headed over to Shibuya. No pics because this was more of an informal visit. I wanted to find the Mandarake to get an idea of how much cash to take here when I come again. However, I couldn’t find it. Shibuya is a crazy place.

That’s it for now.

Day 8 Miscellaneous shopping

I didn’t take too many pictures today. I figured I would kick back and relax with some shopping though I don’t think I really need a day dedicated to it haha…

I started this outing by visiting the Pokemon Center in Hamamatsucho. I would have visited this last time I went here but I didn’t even realize it was in Hamamatsucho. I love brain farts. It was nearby the station too.

Here are some photos of the store front.

This place didn’t really have too much older Pokemon items. There was a lot of stuff from the newer seasons and games. It kind of sucked not recognizing half the Pokemon on the different items. The store overall was pretty small. I felt kind of let down, but it was still neat to visit. I ended up buying some small figures of the different Eevee evolutions since I’ve always liked them. I didn’t even know there was two newer ones. I liked how the English names are completely different then the Japanese names.

After the Pokemon Center, I decided to head back to Ginza and hit up the HMV again. I bought some CD’s that were on sale as well as some other things I happened to find.

Lastly, I finished the day in Akihabara. I decided to cover the main street as well as a lot of the side streets I skipped over before. I also tried my hand at some UFO machines and managed to snag a Taiga towel from Toradora. Yippie! :b

Found this sign in Akiba.

So much money spent so far… :(

Day 7 Ginza

I’ve been knocking a lot of stuff off my list to visit. Today I decided to visit Ginza. I’ve never been here before so I figured I would shoot for the Apple Store and Sony building and see what else I stumble across.

Random pics of the first intersection I came across after leaving Yurakacho station.

Sapporo Beer Hall. The oldest one in Japan. I didn’t expect I would come across it.

Look at da cute dog sign!

P6210009

Hakuhinkan Toy Park. This place was awesome. Some of the toys I didn’t really care for but there was some cool stuff in there.

P6210010

I swung back around to eat lunch at the Sapporo Beer Hall. The gothic style patterns inside were cool. Here is a mural at the back of the hall. This place was also pretty expensive to eat at :(

Zomg.. Apple Store. Hi Hal.

P6210014

Found this cool Windurstian ring from FFXI at the store.

I walked back to the station after a little bit more wondering. I stopped by the HMV store near the station. Lot’s of CD’s and DVD’s here. I may have to swing back by and hit up the sale they are having.

Day 6 Nakano & Meeting up with a friend

Well my internet situation is jacked up right now. I can’t use the internet with my Mac anymore at the Yahoo! cafe which is dumb. I am forced to to use the expensive ass internet provided by the hotel in my room. I will probably be updating two days at a time to save some cash.

Anyways I was planning on going to Shibuya and eventually end up in Yoyogi Park today, but the rain prevented me from doing that. Luckily, I managed to contact one of my friends from FFXI. I was going to go to Nagano and meet up with him, but he was very adamant about coming to Tokyo to visit me. I tried to save him some cash, but he insisted.

We were supposed to meet up at Nakano around 15:00. I arrived a bit early to make sure I was at the right place because it’s been two years since I went there last. I roamed around a little to scope out the place. I managed to take a peak at each floor and especially scoping out the different Mandarake shops.

I headed back to the north gate at Nakano to meet up with him. I had no idea what he looked like so I just kind of chilled there. Luckily, my crappy description of myself was sufficient enough for him to recognize me.

He’s a pretty cool guy. The language barrier was a little tough because we both are good with each other’s respective languages on paper, but suck at speaking it verbally. He said he was fairly nervous since it was his first time having to actually use English with a native speaker. I reassured him he was fine, and I didn’t care if he was good or not since we were friends.

We briefly went over the floors looking at the different shops. We went to a cafe on the first floor to have a late lunch. He brought something he cherished a lot. It was an anime cel from the Princess Mononoke movie he saved up for a long time. At the time of purchase, it was worth 1,500,000 yen. It looked awesome. It was from one of the last scenes in the movie. I am just surprised he was willing to bring it all the way with him to show me.

After eating, we went to Akihabara for a brief time. He had to be back at Tokyo at 17:00 for the shinkansen back to Nagano. We went to Club Sega to see if there were any free spots in the arcade. Since it was the weekend, the place was packed. We ended up checking out Sofmap to look at computers and some parts.

It really sucks we didn’t have enough time to hang out a little more. It would have been cool if we could hung out the entire day. Hopefully, we can meet up next time I am in Japan.

I followed him to Tokyo to say goodbye to him. After seeing him off, I decided to head back to Nakano to pick up some items I didn’t grab while I was with him. I didn’t want to waste our time shopping for me.

Let’s see if the new image sizes work. Here is the entrance to the covered street. This covered street is right before the mall area where Mandarake is.

P6210006

Looks like you can get the iPhone for free with a contract. I wish we could get a deal like that in the US.

P6210007

Another image inside the covered street area.

P6210008

Yes, I know today’s blog entry failed. There wasn’t many images. I felt lazy today and my friend insisted he didn’t want any pictures taken of him lol.

Day 5 – Shinjuku and the Square Enix Store

I started off the day trying to find a place to wash my clothes. I didn’t want to pay the exorbitant amount per item at my hotel. A guy at Guest Relations told me there was a coin laundry nearby the next train station. I looked at him puzzled because there are several lines that go through JR Shinagawa. I was like which one was it >.> He left and came back a few minutes later pointing it out on a map.

I went off on my merry way to get my clothes and figure out how to get there. I realized that it wasn’t that far at all and not even worth riding a train to get to the next station. By the time I got to the train, I could have walked there.

I decided to stop by McDonald’s to enjoy breakfast first before I went off. I saw they had something called the Mega Muffin which I don’t think is available in the states. Here is a pic. This thing is massive lol.

P6190113

I noticed the trash receptacle was a bit more complicated than the ones back at home :P

P6190114

After eating, I started walking to the coin laundry place.

Along the way, I found this funny curry restaurant under the train tracks.

P6190115

I snapped a few more pics along the way.

Here we are at my destination. Nice little coin laundry place.

P6190119

It was going to take 40 minutes for the wash cycle to finish. I figured I should stroll around a bit until it was done.

Ahoy! Thar be a whale!

After I finished getting the clothes washed, I headed back to the hotel.

There is two train tracks that cross the road which should be in a picture above. On my way back, 4 trains decided to cross one after the other, two on each side. It was fun waiting for them.

P6190128P6190127P6190126

7-11!

P6190129

Picked up a snack at the 7-11. Green tea flavored diet coke and melon pan!

P6190130

After snack time, I made my way to Shinjuku to visit the Square Enix Store. I didn’t take many pics along the way because I was trying to find this store. Apparently, it’s difficult to find. I almost passed it. After crossing the street from Shinjuku’s south exit, just stay on that part of the sidewalk all the way and you will eventually reach it.

P6200002P6200001

Square Enix Store was dangerous. I spent so much money :( I had a problem with one of my credit cards because if I sneeze in the wrong direction, they like to lock my credit card -.-

I also saw some footage from upcoming games. Apparently, not all of them are available to the public yet. I saw some footage from the new Kingdom Hearts PSP game Birth by Sleep, Versus XIII, and a handful of other games. Birth by Sleep looks cool.

By the way, this store is awesome. They have lot’s of cool crap to look at. I may have to swing by again to pick up a few more cd’s before I go.

Enough rambling about how awesome that place is. On my way back, I snapped a few pics of all the pretty, tall buildings. I also stumbled upon a Gamers branch here and dropped more money :(

P6200016P6200015P6200014P6200013P6200012P6200011P6200010P6200009P6200008P6200007P6200006P6200005P6200004P6200003

That is one busy crosswalk to the station. Look at all the people.

P6200018P6200017

It was running a bit late and I figured after dropping almost 600 bucks, I should probably stop for the day. I wrestled some grub at the usual place. I figured I should diversify my diet a little so I added some fruit to the mix and got some cool orange juice (no pun intended).

P6200019

That’s it for today. Until next time…
